Granite and all natural stones are properly sealed before they leave our shop and are installed in your home. 

We recommend sealing granite every 2-5 years. Many factors come into play here, and every granite is different. For example, lighter stones may need to be sealed sooner than darker ones, as they tend to be more porous. 

A great way to tell if your top needs to be sealed yet is to take about a quarter cup of water and pour it in a couple of different areas on your counter. If the water leaves a dark mark after about 5 minutes after it is wiped up, then it is likely time to reseal your counters. 

Sealing is a simple process that will not take more than 25 minutes of your time every 1-5 years depending on your material.

All materials can be cleaned daily by simply using a washcloth and water. 

For heavier cleaning, a mild dish detergent will be fine.

If you encounter a spill that has dried up such as nail polish, and can simply scrape it off by using a blunt object like a plastic razor blade.

Avoid cleaners with high amounts of acid, such as lemon juice as the acidity might tarnish the polish on your tops.

Granite is one of the most popular choices for natural stones on the market. It provides indisputable strength, organic beauty, and ultra durability. 

You can place hot pots and pans directly on the surface. You can use knifes directly on granite without worrying about scratches, but it is not recommended as it will quickly dull your knives.

• Avoid using abrasive cleaners as they may cause the shine to diminish
• Do not stand on your granite counter as it may cause a crack or break
• Wipe up any spills as you notice them. If your tops are due to be sealed, the liquid could be absorbed into the counter. 
• Blot and wipe up any oil spills as they happen, and clean with a mild dish detergent and water to avoid any stains. If the stain remains, you can make a poultice simply by mixing some baking soda and water to create a toothpaste-like consistency. Moisten the granite with water, and apply about a 1/2" of the paste on the affected area. Cover the poultice with saran wrap, and tape down the edges. Allow it to sit for 48 hours. Remove the paste with a spatula or cloths, wipe off any excess with water and allow it to dry.

Granite is a suitable material for outdoor applications as it is resistant to ultraviolet light. It can also be used around fireplaces due to it's heat resistance. 

Quartz is a man-made product. It consists of 93-95% natural quartz, the other 5-7% being resin material. It is a popular choice as it comes in a vast array of colours and veining designs. Maintaining your quartz counter is very easy. It is scratch and bacteria resistant.

Quartz is virtually maintenance free, you will never need to seal it since it is non-porous.

It is not heat resistant due to the resin content, you should never place hot pots or pans directly on the surface. You can cut directly on quartz counters due to their scratch-resistance, but it is not recommended as it will quickly dull your knifes. 

• Always use hot pads or trivets between your quartz top and hot pots
• Wipe up spills with common household cleaners, or simply use water and dish detergent
• Avoid using harsh cleaners like bleach
• Avoid using abrasive cleaners and harsh scrubbing pads

Quartz is not recommended for outdoor applications as the ultraviolet light from the sun may cause discoloration. For the same reason, it is not recommended for fireplace surrounds and hearths.

Quartzite will give your kitchen a high-end and elegant feel. It is even harder than granite, making it scratch and chip resistant. You can place hot pots and pans directly on the surface without any worries, and you can cut directly on the surface. Just like granite and quartz, it is not recommended to cut directly on the surface as your knifes will quickly dull.

• Clean up spills immediately, especially oil and acidic foods and drinks such as wine and tomato sauce
• Avoid using harsh cleaners as they can diminish the natural shine of your tops 
• Products geared towards quartzite are recommended- those can be purchased in our showroom
• For daily cleaning, mild dish detergent and water on a cloth will be efficient and safe
• Seal quartzite every 1-3 years to preserve it's natural beauty
• Do not stand on your quartzite counters as it could cause it to crack or break

Quartzite is a great material for outdoor applications as it is resistant to heat and ultraviolet light. It can be safely used for fireplace surrounds and hearths without any worries. 

Marble is a beautiful elegant choice for your kitchen countertops. It is heat resistant like granite and quartzite. You can place hot pots and pans directly on the surface safely. However, it can be a high-maintenance choice if you want to preserve it's beauty. It is a very soft material, making it prone to scratches and chips.

• Do not cut directly on the surface, always use a cutting board
• Daily cleaning can be performed with water and a washcloth
• Do not stand or sit on your marble tops as it is not meant to bear much weight
• Immediately wipe up spills, especially oil and high acidic ones as they will quickly diminish the shine
• Seal your marble counters at least once a year to ensure stain prevention
• Avoid harsh cleaners as they will dull the shine
• Avoid using anything abrasive, including cleaners and scrubbing pads

Marble is a safe choice for outdoor applications as it is ultraviolet light and heat resistant. That being said, it is also an excellent choice for low-traffic areas, such as fireplace surrounds, hearths, and mantles. Low traffic areas will be far less prone to scratching, dulling, and chipping of the stone. 

If you accidentally chip your top, you don't need to worry. Our team of experts can come and repair this in your home. If the chip is large enough and you still have the piece that came off, most of the time it is esthetically more pleasing to glue the chip back on using stone grade adhesives. If you can't find the chip, we have a vast array of colour match adhesives to fill it with.
